Why Histogram Shape Matters Before the Crossover Prints

The MACD histogram does not merely confirm a crossover after the fact. In our Khlong San workshops, we ask participants to mark histogram peaks and troughs before any line cross appears on the chart.
When bars shorten toward the zero line while price holds a higher low, that compression often precedes a bullish crossover with cleaner follow-through. Conversely, lengthening bars into resistance while the signal line flattens warns that the cross may lack room to run.
Practice on daily SET charts first. Note the bar count between the last histogram extreme and the crossover candle. Over twenty examples, patterns emerge that are difficult to see when you only watch the two MACD lines.
Keep a simple tally: crossover plus histogram alignment versus crossover alone. Most participants find their false-signal rate drops when they add this pre-cross filter.
